The enzymeuronolactonase (EC 3.1.1.19)catalyzes the reaction

D-glucurono-6,2-lactone + H2O{\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons }D-glucuronate

This enzyme belongs to the family ofhydrolases, specifically those acting on carboxylicester bonds. Thesystematic name isD-glucurono-6,2-lactone lactonohydrolase. It is also calledglucuronolactonase. It participates inascorbate and aldarate metabolism.
