TheUniversity of Chicago Law Review (Maroonbook abbreviation:U Chi L Rev) is the flagshiplaw journal published by theUniversity of Chicago Law School. It utilizes a different citation system than most law journals—theMaroonbook rather than theBluebook.[2] It is published eight times per year in print and also has an online companion,The University of Chicago Law Review Online.[3]
TheLaw Review was established in 1933.[4] From 1942 through 1945 the review was published by the faculty due to declining student enrollment at the law school duringWorld War II. Prominent former student members have included JudgeAbner J. Mikva,Ohio Attorney GeneralRichard Cordray,Princeton University presidentChristopher L. Eisgruber, religious leaderDallin H. Oaks, and professorGeoffrey R. Stone (alleditors-in-chief); JudgesDanny Boggs,Robert Bork,Frank H. Easterbrook,Douglas H. Ginsburg, andDavid Tatel; professorsMarvin Chirelstein,Daniel Fischel,Lawrence M. Friedman,Mary Ann Glendon, andMichael W. McConnell; and co-founder ofThe Carlyle Group,David M. Rubenstein.[4]
TheLaw Review is edited by student journal members, which areUniversity of Chicago Law School students selected on the basis of their grades or performance on a writing assignment after the first year. It publishes articles written by scholars and lawyers from around the world, and student articles, or "Comments." Prominent legal figures who have published in the journal include:U.S. Supreme Court justicesWilliam J. Brennan Jr.,Tom C. Clark,William O. Among United States law journals in 2023, CLR is ranked 12th byWashington and Lee University Law School[5] and eighth by a professor at theUniversity of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication.[6]
In 2020, it was rated as among the top five most cited law reviews in the world by TaxProf blog.[7][better source needed]
According to theJournal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2016impact factor of 2.284.[8][needs update]
