Umberto Barberis (born 5 June 1952) is a Swiss formerfootball coach and player.
Barberis started his career inSwitzerland, playing forFC Sion in his native town, and then forGrasshopper Zurich andServette FC, winning theSwiss Super League and theSchweizer Cup in 1979. He left his country to play forDivision 1 sideAS Monaco FC where he was elected foreign player of the year byFrance Football magazine in 1981 and 1982, along withAndrzej Szarmach.[3] In 1982, he also won theDivision 1 title withAS Monaco FC.
He was capped 54 times and scored 7 goals.[4]

Barberis was born in Switzerland to an Italian family.[6] He is the father offootballerSébastien Barberis.[7]
