Uche Henry Agbo (born 4 December 1995) is a Nigerian professionalfootballer who plays as either acentre-back or adefensive midfielder forKazakhstan Premier League clubFC Aktobe.[2]
Born inKano, Uche started playing for local lowly Bai Boys, and moved toTaraba in 2010.[3] In May 2011 he signed forJUTH,[4] and appeared regularly for the side, scoring once.
In January 2012 Uche joinedEnyimba International along with teammate James Amankwei.[5] He made his debut for the club on 28 April 2013, coming on as a second-halfsubstitute in a 2–0 win againstDolphins.[6]
In October 2013, Uche went on a trial atUdinese,[7] signing a four-year deal in the following month.[8] In March 2014 he moved toGranada CF, linking up with theAndalusians also until 2018 and being assigned tothe reserves inSegunda División B.[9]
On 23 February 2015, Uche made his first team – andLa Liga – debut, replacingJavi Márquez in the dying minutes of a 2–1 away loss againstLevante UD.[10] On 25 July of the following year, he signed a five-year contract withPremier League clubWatford, being immediately loaned back to Granada for one year.[11]
On 11 July 2017, Uche joined Belgian clubStandard de Liège.[12] On 31 January 2019, he returned to Spain and its first division after agreeing to a six-month loan atRayo Vallecano, with an option to buy.[13] In doing so, he said that he had turned down a big-money move to China, as his career development was more important.[14]
On 21 January 2020, after a six-month loan spell atS.C. Braga, Uche agreed to a deal withDeportivo de La Coruña, still owned by Standard.[15]
On 1 September 2021, following mass exodus from La Coruña, Agbo was announced as a signing of reigning Slovak championsSlovan Bratislava on a three-year contract. His performance against Slovan from theEuropa League was recalled in his introduction.[16]
Uche got his first call up to the seniorNigeria side to replace the injuredLeon Balogun for a2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier againstZambia in October 2016.[17] On 1 June 2017, he made his international debut for Nigeria in a 3–0 win againstTogo in a friendly replacingWilfred Ndidi.[18][19]
Uche was included in Nigeria's preliminary 30-man squad for the2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia,[20] but he did not make the final 23-man squad.[21]
