UFC Fight Night: Mendes vs. Lamas (also known asUFC Fight Night 63) was amixed martial arts event held on April 4, 2015, at thePatriot Center inFairfax, Virginia.[2]
The event was the third that the organization hosted at the venue and the first since 2012.[3] The preliminary portion of the card began at 11 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. PT, with the main card starting at 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT, a rare time slot forUFC events held inNorth America.[4]
The event was headlined by afeatherweight bout between former title challengersChad Mendes andRicardo Lamas.[4]
Jorge Masvidal was briefly linked to a bout withBobby Green at the event. However, shortly after the bout was announced by theUFC, Green pulled out of the bout citing a leg injury, and was replaced by formerWEC &UFC Lightweight championBenson Henderson[5] Subsequently, Henderson was removed from the bout with Masvidal as he was tabbed as a replacement forStephen Thompson to faceBrandon Thatch in the event headliner on February 14, 2015, atUFC Fight Night 60.[6] On February 2,Al Iaquinta was announced as Masvidal's new opponent.[7]
Clint Hester was expected to faceLuke Barnatt at this event. However, Hester pulled out of the fight in early March due to a foot injury.[8] Subsequently, Barnett was pulled from the card entirely in favor of a matchup withMark Muñoz in May atUFC Fight Night 66.[9]
