UFC Fight Night: McDonald vs. Lineker (also known asUFC Fight Night 91) was amixed martial arts event produced by theUltimate Fighting Championship held on July 13, 2016, atDenny Sanford Premier Center inSioux Falls, South Dakota.[2]
This was the first UFC event under the ownership of a group led byEndeavor which includedSilver Lake Partners,Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, andMSD Capital; their purchase ofZuffa was announced two days earlier.[3] The event also was the first that the organization has hosted inSouth Dakota.[2][4]
A lightweight bout betweenThe Ultimate Fighter winners was scheduled to headline the event, asThe Ultimate Fighter: Team Lesnar vs. Team dos Santos winnerTony Ferguson was expected to faceThe Ultimate Fighter: Live winnerMichael Chiesa.[5] However, Chiesa pulled out due to a back injury on June 27.[6] On the following day, it was announced that promotional newcomerLando Vannata would replace him and the bout would be moved to the co-main event, as a bantamweight bout between former interimUFC Bantamweight Championship challengerMichael McDonald andJohn Lineker was revealed as the new headliner.[7]
Alex White was expected to faceThe Ultimate Fighter: Team McGregor vs. Team Faber winnerRyan Hall, but pulled out on June 28 due to an undisclosed injury. Hall elected to fight on a different date rather than have the promotion find him a replacement.[8]
