UFC 276: Adesanya vs. Cannonier was amixed martial arts event produced by theUltimate Fighting Championship that took place on July 2, 2022, at theT-Mobile Arena inParadise,Nevada, part of theLas Vegas Metropolitan Area, United States.[2]

Background

The event was held during the UFC's 10th annual International Fight Week. The 2022UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony also took place during the week.[3]

AUFC Middleweight Championship bout between current championIsrael Adesanya andJared Cannonier headlined the event.[4]

AUFC Featherweight Championship trilogy bout between current championAlexander Volkanovski and former championMax Holloway took place at this event.[5] The pairing first met atUFC 245, where Volkanovski defeated Holloway via unanimous decision to capture the title.[6] Their second meeting took place atUFC 251, with Volkanovski successfully defending the title via split decision. They were originally expected to meet for the third time atUFC 272, but Holloway withdrew due to an aggravated previous injury.[7]

A women's flyweight bout between formerStrikeforce andUFC Women's Bantamweight ChampionMiesha Tate and formerInvicta FC Bantamweight Champion (also formerUFC Women's Flyweight Championship challenger)Lauren Murphy was expected to take place atUFC on ESPN 36.[8] However, the bout was moved to this event for unknown reasons.[9] In turn, a week before the event, Murphy pulled out after shetested positive for COVID-19.[10][11] The bout was then rescheduled toUFC on ABC: Ortega vs. Rodríguez.[12]

A middleweight bout betweenUriah Hall andAndré Muniz took place at the event.[13] The pairing was originally scheduled to meet asUFC on ESPN: Luque vs. Muhammad 2 but Hall withdrew for unknown reasons.[14]

A women's flyweight bout between formerUFC Women's Flyweight Championship challengerJessica Eye andCasey O'Neill was expected to take place at the event.[15] However, O'Neill withdrew in late April due to a torn ACL and was replaced byMaycee Barber.[16]

Sean Strickland was expected to face formerGlory Middleweight andLight Heavyweight ChampionAlex Pereira in a middleweight bout atUFC 277.[17] However, the promotion decided to move the pairing to this event.[18]

A lightweight bout betweenBobby Green andJim Miller was previously booked twice, but was canceled on both occasions: first atUFC 172 in April 2014, when Green pulled out due to an elbow injury.[19] Green also pulled out of the second booking atUFC 258 in February 2021, when he collapsed after the weigh-ins and was deemed unfit to compete.[20] They were then expected to meet at this event.[21] In turn, Green withdrew again for unknown reasons and was replaced by formerUFC Lightweight Championship challengerDonald Cerrone in a welterweight bout.[22] Miller and Cerrone previously met 8 years prior atUFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Miller which Cerrone won by second-round knockout.[23]
