UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cowboy was amixed martial arts event produced by theUltimate Fighting Championship that took place on January 18, 2020 at theT-Mobile Arena inParadise, Nevada, part of theLas Vegas Metropolitan Area, United States.[4]
A welterweight bout between formerUFC Featherweight andLightweight ChampionConor McGregor and former lightweight title challengerDonald Cerrone served as the event headliner.[5]
A women's bantamweight rematch between formerUFC Women's Bantamweight ChampionHolly Holm and former title challengerRaquel Pennington was initially scheduled to take place atUFC 243.[6] The pairing previously met in February 2015 atUFC 184, with Holm winning the encounter via split decision.[7] However, it was revealed on September 27, 2019 that Holm withdrew from the bout due to ahamstring injury and the bout was cancelled.[8] The bout was rescheduled and took place at this event.[9]
Grant Dawson was expected to faceChas Skelly in a featherweight bout at the event.[10] However, the bout was scrapped on January 14 after Dawson announced that he was forced to withdraw.[11]
FormerUFC Women's Strawweight Championship challengerCláudia Gadelha was expected to faceAlexa Grasso at the event.[12] However, on the day of the weigh-ins, Grasso weighed in at 121.5 pounds, 5.5 pounds over the strawweight non-title fight limit of 116 pounds. TheNevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) decided to remove the fight because competitors are not allowed to compete if the weight between them is over 3 pounds.[13]
