AUFC Featherweight Championship bout between current championMax Holloway and formerUFC Lightweight ChampionFrankie Edgar headlined the event.[3] The pairing was scheduled twice before, first atUFC 218 and then atUFC 222, but scrapped for Edgar and Holloway injuries, respectively.[4][5]
A women's flyweight bout between formerInvicta FC Bantamweight ChampionLauren Murphy andMara Romero Borella was initially scheduled for this event. On June 20, matchmakers moved the bout a week ahead toUFC on ESPN: Covington vs. Lawler.[6]
A heavyweight bout betweenTanner Boser and Giacomo Lemos was scheduled. On July 25, the bout was scrapped due to Lemos testing positive for an unspecified banned substance.[7]
