UFC 125: Resolution was amixed martial arts event held by theUltimate Fighting Championship on January 1, 2011 at theMGM Grand Garden Arena inLas Vegas, Nevada.[3]
The planned rematch betweenUFC Middleweight ChampionAnderson Silva andChael Sonnen from theirUFC 117 bout was at one point thought to take place at this event.[4][5]
On October 26, 2010,Shane Carwin had to pull out of his fight withRoy Nelson due to a back injury that required surgery. Nelson was then pulled from the card altogether.[6]
On October 28, 2010,UFC presidentDana White announced thatWorld Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) would merge with theUFC and thatWEC Featherweight ChampionJosé Aldo would be promoted toUFC Featherweight Champion.[7]Josh Grispi was pulled from a plannedWEC 52 bout withErik Koch to challenge Aldo for theFeatherweight title at this event.[8] However, Aldo was later forced off the card with an injury.[9] Grispi remained on the card and foughtDustin Poirier.[10]
Alightweight bout betweenCole Miller andMatt Wiman, which was originally scheduled to take place at this event, was moved toUFC: Fight For The Troops 2.[11]
UFC 125 preliminary fights were shown live for the first time onIon Television in theUnited States.[12] The preliminary fights were shown live in theUnited Kingdom onESPN,Rogers Sportsnet inCanada[13] andFuel TV inAustralia.[14]
