A previously rumouredLightweight Championship bout betweenB.J. Penn andDiego Sanchez[4] did not take place at this event. At theUFC 102 press conference, White said it was likely that the fight will be moved to a third event in November which was at the time still unannounced.[5] It was later announced that the bout would take place atUFC 107.[6]
A bout betweenAntônio Rogério Nogueira andLuiz Arthur Cane was moved toUFC 106.[7]Dong Hyun Kim was forced to pull out of his bout withDan Hardy due to an injury. He was replaced byMike Swick.[citation needed][8]
The winner of Mike Swick vs. Dan Hardy was said to receive a title shot atGeorges St-Pierre in early 2010.[9] This fight took place atUFC 111. A previously announced bout betweenPeter Sobotta andDaMarques Johnson was cancelled due to a military commitment for Sobotta.[10]
