It was the first UFC event held in Pennsylvania.[3] The event featured the second title defense of Lightweight ChampionB.J. Penn againstKenny Florian, and a non-title Light Heavyweight bout for Middleweight ChampionAnderson Silva against former Light Heavyweight ChampionForrest Griffin.
A previously announced bout betweenRousimar Palhares andAlessio Sakara[4] was cancelled due to a broken leg suffered by Palhares during training.[5] Thales Leites stepped in to face Sakara.[6]
George Roop stepped in againstGeorge Sotiropoulos afterRob Emerson pulled out of the matchup due to a cut requiring stitches.[7]
