“Brave the Wave” (Po Lang, 破浪) sailtraining ship is aType 2630tall ship, a Chineseauxiliary ship currently in service with thePeople's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).[1][2][3][4][5] Type 2630full-rigged ship is named after the total area of its sails, which is 2630 square meters,[1][2][3][5] and thisfull-rigged ship is designed byDamen Group, then modified by the builderGuangzhou Shipyard International to meet PLAN requirement,[2][3][4] such as converting the kitchen andlarder/pantry for cookingChinese food. It has a sister shipRoyal Navy of OmanShabab Oman II.[6] The ship is 85 meter long, beam of 11 meter, displaces over 1200 tons, capable of 18 kts.[1][2][3][4][5] Launched in 2017 and entered Chinese service in the same year,[1] Type 2630 only requires 25 crew to operate,[2] and can accommodate an additional 50 naval cadets onboard.[1][3][5]

On 8 October 2024,Po Lang arrived at thePort of Colombo,Sri Lanka, for a formal visit. The vessel is commanded by Commander Ma Wenyong. After completing its official engagements, the vessel is scheduled to depart the island on 11 October 2024.[7]
