TheTwo Puddings was a pub on Stratford Broadway inStratford, east London, and a live music venue.
In the 1940s and 1950s it became known asthe Butcher's Shop because of its reputation for fighting and spilt blood.[1][2]
From 1962 until the pub closed in 2000, the landlord was Eddie Johnson, father ofMatt Johnson, lead vocalist ofthe The.[3]
Performers includedthe Who, theSmall Faces,Screaming Lord Sutch andDavid Essex, who played his first gig there.[2]
On the first floor was the Devil's Kitchen which is believed to be one of the first discos in the UK.[2]
Eddie Johnson retired toLong Melford, Suffolk, and died in June 2018, aged 86.[4]
