Turned v (majuscule:Ʌ,minuscule:ʌ) is a letter of theLatin alphabet, based on a turned form of the letterV.
It is used in the orthographies ofDan,Ch’ol,Nankina,Northern Tepehuán,Temne,Oneida, andWounaan and also some orthographies ofIbibio.[1]
Its lowercase is used in theInternational Phonetic Alphabet to represent anopen-mid back unrounded vowel, the vowel inplus in many dialects of English.
Despite the similarity in appearance, the letter has no connection to the GreekΛ, CyrillicЛ,CJK radical人, or Koreanㅅ.
In German and French handwriting, the numeral 1 often takes the form of a turned V, whereby the serif is extended down to the length of the main stroke.[2]
