Turinsk (Russian:Туринск) is atown and theadministrative center ofTurinsky District ofSverdlovsk Oblast,Russia, located on the right bank of theTura River midway betweenVerkhoturye andTyumen, near itsconfluence with theYarlynka, 253 kilometers (157 mi) northeast ofYekaterinburg. Population:17,925 (2010 Census);[1]19,313 (2002 Census);[4]23,189 (1989 Soviet census).[5]
It was founded in 1600 as anostrog in place of the ancient town of Yepanchin, which was razed byYermak Timofeyevich in 1581.
