On December 9, 2020, it was announced thatKevin Hart andWesley Snipes would star in the limited seriesTrue Story. The series is created and executive produced byEric Newman.[7] The series is the television drama debut for Hart, who also executive produces, along with showrunner Charles Murray, directorStephen Williams, and Dave Becky.[8][4] Hartbeat Productions and Grand Electric produce the series.[8] Caroline Currier, Mike Stein, and Tiffany Brown serve as co-producers.[4]
Alongside the series announcement, Hart and Snipes were cast.[8] In February 2021,Tawny Newsome,Paul Adelstein, Will Catlett,Chris Diamantopoulos,Billy Zane,Lauren London,Ash Santos, andJohn Ales were cast.[5] Theo Rossi was cast a month later.[6]
