Tromantadine is anantiviral medicine used to treatherpes simplex virus. It is available in atopical gel under trade namesViru-Merz andViru-Merz Serol. Its performance is similar toaciclovir.[1][2]

Likerimantadine, amantadine, andadapromine, tromantadine is a derivative ofadamantane.

Mechanism

[edit]

Tromantadine inhibits the early and late events in thevirus replication cycle.[3] It changes theglycoproteins of the host cells, therefore impeding the absorption of the virus. It inhibits penetration of the virus. It also preventsuncoating of thevirions.[citation needed]
