TheAshton-under-Lyne trolleybus system once served themarket town ofAshton-under-Lyne , now in theMetropolitan Borough of Tameside ,Greater Manchester , north westEngland .
Opened on 26 February 1925 (1925-02-26 ) ,[ 1] [ 2] Ashton-under-Lyne tramway network . By the standards of the various now-defuncttrolleybus systems in theUnited Kingdom , it was a small one, with a total of only five routes, and a maximum fleet of 19 trolleybuses.[ 2] (1966-12-31 ) .[ 2] [ 3]
The Ashton trolleybus system also served thecity ofManchester .[ 1]
Two of the former Ashton system trolleybuses are now preserved. One of them is at theGreater Manchester Transport Museum inCheetham , Manchester, and the other one is based at theEast Anglia Transport Museum ,Carlton Colville ,Suffolk .[ 4]
