Trinity Bay is a large bay in theCoral Sea off the east coast ofFar North Queensland, Australia. TheMossman River discharges into the bay. At one time theMulgrave River also entered the bay until geological changes resulted in its mouth forming further south at Port Constantine.[1]
The bay was named after the Christian holy dayTrinity Sunday by LieutenantJames Cook on 10 June 1770.[2]
At its southern end is the city ofCairns. Here there are extensivemangrove ecosystems which are protected byCape Grafton.[3]Trinity Inlet and Trinity Bay form the location for theCairns seaport.Trinity Bay State High School is a school located in Cairns.
