Thetrigeminal motor nucleus containsmotor neurons that innervate muscles of thefirst branchial arch, namely the muscles ofmastication, thetensor tympani, tensor veli palatini, mylohyoid, and anterior belly of thedigastric.[1] It is situated in the upperpons, inferior to the lateral part of the floor of thefourth ventricle.[2]
The trigeminal motor nucleus forms the efferent pathway of thejaw jerk reflex. Since the axons involved in this reflex do not decussate, a lesion involving the trigeminal motor nucleus would causeipsilateral hemiparesis.
