Trevor Laird (born 11 July 1957, London, England) is a British actor.

Biography

Born inIslington,London in 1957, Laird trained at theAnna Scher Theatre.[citation needed] Early roles included a 1976 role in a TV adaptation of thePeter Prince novelPlaythings, directed byStephen Frears,[1] and severalPlay For Todays:Victims of Apartheid byTom Clarke (1978),[2]Barrie Keeffe'sWaterloo Sunset (1979)[3] andThe Vanishing Army byRobert Holles (1980).[4]

Laird was a founder member of the Black Theatre Co-operative (nowNitroBeat) in 1978 and performed in its inaugural playWelcome Home Jacko byMustapha Matura the following year.[5] He then had breakthrough roles in the 1979 filmQuadrophenia - as Ferdy, a drug supplier for the main character Jimmy - and inFranco Rosso's 1980 cult classicBabylon as Beefy.[6] He played the boy under the car inThe Long Good Friday (1980) and appeared inMenelik Shabazz's black British filmBurning an Illusion.[7]

Later appearances include the 1986Doctor Who serialMindwarp as the guard commander Frax. He later returned toDoctor Who in the role ofClive Jones, father of theTenth Doctor's companionMartha Jones.

In 1996 Laird played Hortense's brother in theMike Leigh filmSecrets & Lies. He played Wesley Carter in the TV seriesUndercover Heart, and Trevor in the British gangster filmLove, Honour and Obey (2000).[7] He played DI Mike Vedder “End of the Night”, S8:E4 ofWaking the Dead (2009).

In 2015, Laird appeared as Vince Thuram in the BBC TV seriesDeath in Paradise. In March 2021, he appeared in an episode of theBBC soap operaDoctors asSamuel Asante.[8]
