Trevor Anthony Brissett (2 January 1961 – 17 May 2010) was an Englishfootballer. He played in theFootball League forPort Vale andDarlington in the early 1980s. He remained involved with football for the rest of his life, playing forStafford Rangers,Witton Albion,Macclesfield Town, andNewcastle Town, and coaching at Newcastle Town,Congleton Town,Meir KA and theStoke CityAcademy.
Brissett was contracted toStoke City, before joininglocal rivalsPort Vale in May 1980, after being spotted byJohn McGrath andJohn Rudge.[1] He made 45 appearances in1980–81, missing just fiveFourth Division games.[1] However, he featured just 15 times in1981–82, and was given afree transfer in May 1982.[1] He spent the1982–83 campaign with league rivalsDarlington and played 12 games before he was released bymanagerBilly Elliott. He moved intonon-League football withStafford Rangers andWitton Albion in 1983. He played 16 games for Witton in the1983–84 season, featured 38 times in the1984–85 campaign and played another 46 games in the1985–86 season.[3][4][5] He later played forMacclesfield Town andNewcastle Town.[1] Whilst at Macclesfield Town in summer 1987 he was in a car crash with teammatesNigel Shaw,Ian Elsby andSteve Waddington.[6] He managed to recover to play the final few minutes of an end of season game.[7]
After a spell asNewcastle Town player/assistant manager, he went on to work withGlyn Chamberlain again atCongleton Town.[8] He also coached atMeir KA and theStoke CityAcademy.[8]
Brissett died from cancer in May 2010 at theQueen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.[9] His funeral was conducted on 4 June 2010 and was described as "full to capacity" with mourners.[9] He was survived by wife Sharon and two daughters, Lauren and Morgan.[9]
