Transrectal ultrasonography, orTRUS in short, is a method of creating an image oforgans in thepelvis, most commonly used to perform an ultrasound-guided needlebiopsy evaluation of the prostate gland in men with elevatedprostate-specific antigen or prostatic nodules ondigital rectal exam. TRUS-guided biopsy may revealprostate cancer,benign prostatic hyperplasia, orprostatitis. TRUS may also detect other diseases of the lower rectum and can be used to stage primaryrectal cancer.[1][2][3]
