Transmedicalism is the belief that beingtransgender is primarily a medical issue marked bygender dysphoria and treated viamedical transition (i.e.,hormone therapy orsex reassignment surgery).[1][2][3] Transmedicalists (ortransmeds)[4] believe trans people who do not experience dysphoria or desire medical assistance are not authentically transgender, and label themtranstrenders.[2][5][6] They may also excludenon-binary people.[7] There are divides and debates among transmedicalists on the exact definition of who counts as transgender.[8]
Transmedicalists are sometimes referred to astruscum,[2][9] a term coined onTumblr meaning "truetranssexual scum" which they have sincereappropriated.[10][11] Those who believe that gender dysphoria is not required to be transgender are sometimes calledtucute, meaning "too cute to becisgender".[11] Transmedicalists dismiss transgender people they consider inauthentic astranstrenders.[12]

They criticize those deemed "transtrenders," individuals who 'inauthentically' claim to be transgender in the absence of medicalized criteria, particularly gender dysphoria.
