TheTown of East Fremantle is alocal government area in the southernsuburbs of theWestern Australian capital city ofPerth, located immediately northeast of the port city ofFremantle and about 17 kilometres (11 mi) southwest ofPerth's central business district. The Town covers an area of 3.1 square kilometres (1.2 sq mi), maintains 46 km of roads and had a population of over 7,000 as at the2016 Census.
The Municipality of East Fremantle was gazetted on 2 April 1897. On 1 July 1961, it became a town following the enactment of theLocal Government Act 1960.[2]
The town has been divided into four wards, each electing two councillors. Each councillor serves a four-year term, and half-elections are held every two years. The mayor is directly elected.[3]

As of 2024[update], 1,146 places are heritage-listed in the Town of East Fremantle,[4] of which fifteen are on theState Register of Heritage Places.[5]
