Toura (Arabic:طورا) is a municipality in theTyre District in SouthLebanon, located 9 kilometres northeast ofTyre.
According toE. H. Palmer in 1881, the nameTorah comes from "flowing water".[1]
In 1875,Victor Guérin found here 450Metawileh. He further noted that the village occupied "the summit of a hill entirely covered with fig-trees."[2]
In 1881, thePEF'sSurvey of Western Palestine (SWP) described it: "A village of mud and stone, situated on the top of a hill, and surrounded by figs, olives, and arable land. There are a spring andcisterns. It contains about 200Metawileh."[3]
In 2014Muslims made up 99.89% of registered voters in Toura. 99.36% of the voters wereShiite Muslims.[4]
