Tony O'Donnell (born March 7, 1961) is an American politician, who representedDistrict 29C in theMaryland House of Delegates. In 2016, GovernorLarry Hogan appointed him to theMaryland Public Service Commission.[1] He retired from the commission in June 2024.[2]
O'Donnell attendedMiddletown Area High School inMiddletown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He graduated fromNaval Nuclear Propulsion School in 1980. He received his B.S. from Regents College of theUniversity of the State of New York (nowExcelsior University) in 1985.
O'Donnell served inUnited States Navy, achieving a rank of E-6, from 1979-87. After the Navy, he was a supervisor for the Instrument Modifications Unit atBaltimore Gas & Electric'sCalvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. He received the Edward T. Hall Memorial Award for Outstanding Republican Man of the Year – Calvert County, Calvert County Republican Central Committee in 1993. In 2005, he received the Outstanding Employer Partner award from the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.
O'Donnell was first elected in 1995 into theMaryland House of Delegates for District 29C, which covers parts ofCalvert andSt. Mary's Counties. He defeated Thomas Michael Pelagatti by 32 votes.[3] He was re-elected in 1998 (59%),[4] 2002 (52%),[5] 2006 (60%),[6] and 2010 (57%).[7]
O'Donnell was Minority Whip in theMaryland House of Delegates from 2003 to 2006, and served as Minority Leader until 2013.[8] In 2010, he was named one of the "Most Influential Maryland Legislators" (Top 20).[9]

In November 2011, O'Donnell announced his intention to run for the United States Congress representingMaryland's 5th congressional district currently held by Democratic incumbentSteny Hoyer. The 5th district spans from Anne Arundel, Calvert, Prince George's and Saint Mary's Counties.
Tony O'Donnell and his wife, Lori, have three children and two grandchildren.[12]
