Tom Glynn-Carney (born 7 February 1995) is an English actor. He appeared inChristopher Nolan's war filmDunkirk (2017) and won aDrama Desk Award in 2019 for his performance in the playThe Ferryman. He gained recognition for starring asAegon II Targaryen in the fantasy drama seriesHouse of the Dragon (2022–present).

Life and career

Glynn-Carney was born on 7 February 1995 inSalford,Greater Manchester, England.[3][4] He studied atCanon Slade School in Bolton,[5] and went on to study Musical Theatre in Pendleton Sixth Form College, receiving a triple distinction star in performing arts, the highest possible grade for a vocational qualification.[5] He then attended theGuildhall School of Music and Drama,[6] where he studied acting. While studying, he participated in professional stage adaptations ofPeter Pan andMacbeth.[6]

His first experience on television was in 2013 when he had a role in two episodes ofCasualty.[5] He secured a lead role in the BBC military dramaThe Last Post,[2] launched as part of the new season Autumn 2017 content on BBC1. He plays Lance Corporal Tony Armstrong.[2] From April 2017, he starred as Shane Corcoran in theJez Butterworth playThe Ferryman,[1] which opened at theRoyal Court Theatre.[7] He later transferred with the production to the west end at theGielgud Theatre, leaving the production in October 2017. Glynn-Carney won the Emerging Talent Award at theEvening Standard Theatre Awards for his performance.[8]

Glynn-Carney's first introduction to American audiences was in thewar dramaDunkirk,[2] directed byChristopher Nolan and released in July 2017.[2] He plays Peter, the son of thesmall boat captain who sailed torescue British soldiers from the surrounded city Dunkirk.[2] In 2018 Glynn-Carney was named as one ofScreen International's Stars of Tomorrow, along withNaomi Ackie,Jessie Buckley, andConnor Swindells amongst others.[9]

In 2019 he starred asHenry "Hotspur" Percy in theDavid Michôd directed filmThe King[5] in a cast which includedRobert Pattinson,Sean Harris,Timothée Chalamet andLily-Rose Depp.[5]

In March 2022, Glynn-Carney joined the cast ofHouse of the Dragon,[10] where he played King Aegon II Targaryen,[10] first born son of King Viserys, played byPaddy Considine, and Alicent Hightower played byOlivia Cooke.[10] He appeared in theBBC miniseriesSAS: Rogue Heroes, released in October 2022.[11] In December 2022, he was cast inThe Book of Clarence.[12]

Glynn-Carney is also the lead singer of the indie band, Sleep Walking Animals.[13]
