Thomas Bernthal is the founder and former CEO of a strategic consulting agency, Kelton Global, and formerNBC News producer.[2]
Bernthal was born the eldest of three boys in Washington, D.C., to Joan Lurie (née Marx) and Eric Lawrence "Rick" Bernthal, a former lawyer withLatham & Watkins LLP and currently chair of the board of directors for theHumane Society of the United States.[3][4] His paternal grandfather was musician and producerMurray Bernthal.[5] He has two brothers,Jon, an actor, and Nicholas, anorthopedic surgeon and professor atUCLA.[6][7] Bernthal and his family areJewish.[8]
Bernthal grew up inCabin John, Maryland. He attended theSidwell Friends School.[9]
Bernthal began his career working at the White House's Communication Office during theBill Clinton administration.[10] Following this stint, he worked as a news producer and journalist forNBC News.[11] During his six years with NBC, Bernthal produced segments for theToday Show,Nightly News,Dateline, MSNBC and CNBC and won threeEmmy Awards for his work.[12]
In 2000, Bernthal moved toLos Angeles, where he continued to work for NBC before founding his own marketing and consulting agency in 2002, Kelton Global. He is a former CEO of the organization.[2]
Bernthal has three children from his first wife, whom he divorced in 2020.[13]
Bernthal began dating Facebook COOSheryl Sandberg in the spring of 2019. The two were engaged in February 2020,[14] and were married in August 2022.[1]
