Tobechukwu Dubem "Tobe" NwigweListen^ⓘ (pronounced "toh-beh-CHOO-kwoodoo-BEM WEE-gweh"; born March 8, 1987^[1]), is an American rapper, singer and actor.

Beginning in August 2016, Nwigwe began posting an original song and video every Sunday across social media.^[2] This led to a large social media following through his Instagram and YouTube posts and videos.^[3]

Nwigwe regularly collaborates with his wife.^[4]

Nwigwe appeared on the BET Hip Hop Awards 2018 Cypher.^[5] He is a featured artist onPJ Morton's albumPaul, released on August 9, 2019 by Morton Records and Empire Records.^[6]

In 2019, Nwigwe performed on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series.^[7] His music has garnered attention from Michelle Obama, who put his song "I'm Dope" on her workout playlist.^[8] In 2020, Nwigwe went viral on digital platforms for his song "I Need You To (Breonna Taylor)".^[9] He said God gave him a vision to do the song as a public service announcement.^[10] He performed his songs "Try Jesus" and "Eat" at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards.^[11] "Try Jesus" reached No. 4 on theBillboard R&B Digital Song Sales chart.^[12]

Nwigwe appears in theNetflix seriesMo (TV series) as Nick, Mo's best friend since childhood.^[24] The show was created by and stars comedianMo Amer.

He also starred as Reek inTransformers: Rise of the Beasts, to which he also contributed to the soundtrack.^[25]

Nwigwe is from theAlief neighborhood ofHouston in the U.S. state ofTexas.^[26]

He is of Nigerian descent, and hails from theIgbo ethnic group. He was raisedCatholic, but later began attendingnondenominational churches.^[27]

Tobe played high school and then college football at theUniversity of North Texas.^[28] He was being considered for draft by theNFL, however, aLisfranc ligament tear left him unable to play.^[2] He then founded the nonprofit TeamGINI, a name derived from “Gịnị bụ mkpa gị??” which translates to “What’s your need?” in theIgbo language. TeamGINI aims to help families in need by giving them gifts that aid them in gaining financial literacy and independence.^[29] After encouragement from the motivational speaker Eric Thomas, Nwigwe began focusing on music.^[3]

Tobe is married to Martica Ivory "Fat" Nwigwe, née Rogers. They have five children, Ivory, Sage, Chukwueze, Chikodili and Jachike.^[30]
