Timothy Richard Stratford (born 26 February 1961) is anAnglicanpriest and author.[1][2] Since 2018, he has beenDean of Chester in theChurch of England. He was previouslyArchdeacon of Leicester from 2012 to 2018.
Stratford was born on 26 February 1961 inLiverpool, England. He was educated atKnowsley Hey School, acomprehensive school inHuyton, Merseyside. He studied at theUniversity of Leicester, graduating with aBachelor of Science (BSc) degree in 1982, and trained for ordination atWycliffe Hall, Oxford.[3] He later studied for aDoctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at theUniversity of Sheffield, submitting his doctorate in 2008: his thesis was titled "Urban liturgy in the Church of England: a historical, theological and anthropological analysis of the mid-Victorian slum priestritualists and their legacy".[4]
He wasordaineddeacon in 1986 andpriest in 1987.[5] Aftercuracies inMossley Hill andSt Helens he waschaplain toDavid Sheppard,Bishop of Liverpool from 1991 to 1994. He wasvicar ofWest Derby from 1994 to 2003;[6] andteam rector ofKirkby from 2003 to 2012. He wasArchdeacon of Leicester from 2012[7] until his installation asDean of Chester on 8 September 2018.[8]
On 7 June 2024, he officiated the wedding ofHugh Grosvenor, 7th Duke of Westminster andOlivia Grace Henson.[9]
In 1986, Stratford married Jennifer. They have three sons.[3]
