Tian Dajiangjun

Chinese constellation

Tian Dajiangjun (simplified Chinese:天大将军;traditional Chinese:天大將軍;pinyin:Tiān Dà Jiāngjūn) is aChinese constellation (星官) in the region ofLóu (婁宿天區). It contains 11 or 12 stars, in the Western constellationsAndromeda andTriangulum.[1] Its name is translated as "Heaven's Great General"[2] or "Celestial Grand General".[1] In older Western sources its name was transliterated asTeen Ta Tseang Keun[3] orTëen ta tsëang keun.[4]R. H. Allen based identification of Chinese star names by the English astronomerJohn Williams (1797–1874) and the naturalistJohn Reeves.[5] But Allen lacked last wordkuen asTien Ta Tseang[2] and also transliterated it asTsien Ta Tseang.[6]
