From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Set of mythological Greek characters

InGreek mythology, there were at least three people namedThymoetes (/θɪˈmtiz/;Ancient Greek: ΘυμοίτηςThumoítēs).

  • Thymoetes, one of the elders ofTroy (also spelled Thymoetus)[1] and also a Trojan prince as the son of KingLaomedon.[2] Asoothsayer had predicted that, on a certain day, a boy would be born by whom Troy would be destroyed. On that very dayParis was born to KingPriam of Troy, andMunippus to Thymoetes. Priam ordered Munippus and his motherCilla to be killed in order to prevent the prophecy from being fulfilled while sparing his own son.[3][AI-generated source?] It is believed that Thymoetes, in order to avenge his family, advised to draw thewooden horse into the city.[4]
  • Thymoetes, anAthenian hero, son ofOxyntes, king ofAttica. He was the last Athenian king descended fromTheseus. He was succeeded byMelanthus (according toPausanias, overthrown by him).[5]
  • Thymoetes, a Trojan and a companion ofAeneas, who was slain byTurnus.[6]
