Thomas Fasbender (born 13 March 1957[1] inGummersbach, North Rhine-Westphalia) is a German journalist and author.

Life

Thomas Fasbender studied law and later switched to philosophy.[2] He joined theCorps Borussia Bonn in 1979.[3] In 1986, he completed his PhD at theUniversity of Bayreuth with a thesis onThomas Carlyle.[4] After a newspaper traineeship inLower Bavaria, he was promoted to political and economic editor. He worked as press officer for a trade fair company and as assistant to the CEO with an electrical equipment multinational.

For the same company Fasbender moved to Moscow in 1992. He was involved in the restructuring and liquidation of joint ventures founded during Soviet times. As managing director of a Russian subsidiary, he set up local production facilities. In 1999 he became self-employed as partner in aspinning and weaving mill on theVolga. In Moscow, starting 2003, he operated acorporate fleet management company.

In 2015 he returned toBerlin. From 2016 to 2018 he advised the Berlin-basedDialogue of Civilizations Research Institute.

From 2019, in hisRT DE 15-minute, at times sarcastical weekly formatFasbenders Woche, he commented on a wide range of political subjects. His talk show formatFasbender im Gespräch presented German-speaking personalities such asNorbert Häring,Roland Koch,Haralampi G. Oroschakoff,Roger Köppel,Hans-Joachim Frey,Maria Zakharova,Georg Pazderski,Tuvia Tenenbom,Dieter Stein,Alexander Neu,Billy Six and others.

His cooperation withRT ended with the2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since 2023, he writes for the dailyBerliner Zeitung.[5]

Fasbender wrote a Putin biography that was reviewed in several newspapers, includingWiener Zeitung, Bibliothek des Konservatismus, Berliner Kriminalitätszeitung,Junge Freiheit, and Online Merker.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

Fasbender is married and has 5 children.
