Thomas E. Knight, Jr. (June 19, 1898 – May 17, 1937) was an Americanlawyer andpolitician who served as the13th Lieutenant Governor ofAlabama from 1935 to 1937, and the19th Attorney General of Alabama from 1931 to 1935. He was a native ofGreensboro, Alabama.
Knight was the prosecutor in theScottsboro trials in the 1930s; as the Attorney General, he also represented the State before theUnited States Supreme Court in the three cases stemming from the trials:Powell v. Alabama, in 1932; andNorris v. Alabama andPatterson v. Alabama, both in 1935.[1]
Knight died suddenly on May 17, 1937, inMontgomery,Alabama, due to complications from kidney and liver conditions.[2]
