Theodorias (Greek:Θεοδωριάς) was aByzantineprovince created in 528 by EmperorJustinian I and named in honour of his wife, the EmpressTheodora.[1]
It comprised a small coastal territory taken from the earlier provinces ofSyria Prima andSyria Secunda. The new province remained part of theDiocese of the East. Its capital wasLaodicea (in Syria; now Latakia), and it also included the cities ofPaltus (Arab al-Mulk),Balaneae andGabala. Ecclesiastically, these cities retained their former allegiances to themetropolitan bishops of Syria Prima and Secunda:[1]Antioch andApamea in Syria.
The province survived until theMuslim conquest of Syria in the 630s.[citation needed]
