Thenkarai is apanchayat town inPerur taluk ofCoimbatore district in the Indian state ofTamil Nadu. Located in the western part of the state, it is one of the 33 panchayat towns in the district. Spread across an area of 12 km2 (4.6 sq mi), it had a population of 7,349 individuals as per the2011 census.

The town panchayat is headed by a chairperson, who is elected by the members, who are chosen through direct elections.[5] The town forms part of theThondamuthur Assembly constituency that elects its member to theTamil Nadu legislative assembly and thePollachi Lok Sabha constituency that elects its member to theParliament of India.[6]
As per the2011 census, Thenkarai had a population of 7,349 individuals across 2,093 households.[7] The population saw a marginal increase compared to the previous census in2001 when 7,130 inhabitants were registered. The population consisted of 3,657 malesand 3,692 females.[3][8] About 567 individuals were below the age of six years.[7] About 13.8% of the population belonged toscheduled castes and 1% belonged toscheduled tribes. The entire population is classified as urban. The town has an average literacy rate of 64.8%.[3][7]
About 57.7% of the eligible population were employed, of which majority were involved inagriculture and allied activities.[3][7]Hinduism was the majority religion which was followed by 98.6% of the population, withChristianity (1.2%) andIslam (0.1%) being minor religions.[9]
