TheThebaid orThebais (Ancient Greek:Θηβαΐς,Thēbais), also called theCyclicThebaid, is anAncient Greekepic poem of uncertain authorship (seeCyclic poets) sometimes attributed by early writers toHomer, for example, by the poetCallinus and the historianHerodotus.[1] It told the story of the war between the brothersEteocles andPolynices, and was regarded as forming part of aTheban Cycle. Only fragments of the text survive.
