The Woman Captain; Or, The Usurer Turned Soldier is a 1679comedy by the English writerThomas Shadwell. It was originally staged by theDuke's Company atDorset Garden Theatre inLondon. The original cast is unknown except forElizabeth Barry who played the title role, and also read theepilogue.[1] It is part of the tradition ofRestoration Comedy that flourished during the era.[2]
It was revived in 1710 atDrury Lane featuringLucretia Bradshaw andHenry Norris then again in 1716 and 1717 at theLincoln's Inn Fields Theatre withSarah Thurmond starring.
