The Mark Hotel is a luxury hotel, situated at 25 East 77th Street, atMadison Avenue, on theUpper East Side ofManhattan,New York City.[1] Originally constructed in 1927 in theRenaissance Revival style, the building was purchased byIzak Senbahar of Alexico Group and Simon Elias in 2006 and the building's interiors were reimagined by French designerJacques Grange in 2009.[2]

Architecture and description

In addition to housing 106 hotel rooms and 47 suites,[3] the building features aJean Georges Vongerichten restaurant and bar, aFrédéric Fekkai salon,John Lobb shoe care services, and an exclusive scent byFrédéric Malle and unique illustrations by Jean-Philippe Delhomme. The Mark is also home to the New York location of Caviar Kaspia,[4] the renowned Parisian restaurant.Jacques Grange commissioned seven international artists and artisans, includingKarl Lagerfeld,Ron Arad, Eric Schmitt, Paul Mathieu,Mattia Bonetti,Vladimir Kagan,Rachel Howard and Todd Eberle to create exclusive furnishings and artwork for The Mark collection.[5]

In 2015 The Mark Hotel unveiled "The Mark Penthouse" designed by Jacques Grange, on the 16th and 17th floors. At over 10,000 square feet it is the largest hotel suite in the United States. With 5 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, great room, library, formal dining room, gourmet kitchen and four fireplaces, it affords exclusive access to a 2,500 square foot private terrace overlooking the Manhattan skyline,Central Park and TheMetropolitan Museum of Art. The Penthouse is known to be the home of choice to many famous celebrities, royals and titans of industry whilst in New York and was the selected venue forMeghan Markle’s baby shower in 2019.[6] In the winter, the Penthouse boasts a bespoke private skating rink.[7]

The Mark is renowned for its boldly lavish luxury and unique amenities such as a Jean-Georges Haute-dog Cart, a custom pedicab, flower cart,Mercedes-Benz e-bikes and The Mark Sailboat. The Mark offers luxurious stays for the family including a range of children’s amenities and is known for being the most dog friendly hotel in Manhattan with a bespoke ‘spoiled dogs menu’ by Jean-Georges. The hotel also has its own e-commerce store, Le Shop, so guests can take home their favorite souvenirs.

The Mark has been named the ‘unofficial red carpet’ of theMet Gala and has become the coveted destination for the stars to reveal their highly anticipated, themed outfits each year.Vogue dubbed The Mark ‘The Starriest Hotel Lobby in the World’ and 'Perhaps the Most Famous Lobby in the World'.[8] The red-carpet departures can be streamed live fromE! News on the day of the Met Gala.[9] The Mark has also been included in numerous television series includingSuccession andJust Like That... and was featured in the inaugural episode ofThe World’s Most Luxurious Holidays onChannel 4.[10]
