The Irrigator, formerlyThe Murrumbidgee Irrigator, is aweekly newspaper published inLeeton, New South Wales, Australia, since 1915.[1]
The Murrumbidgee Irrigator was first published on 23 April 1915 only a few years after the establishment of the town.[2][3] Its circulation includedBarellan, Brobenah,Darlington Point, Leeton,Mirrool,Whitton,Willbriggie, andYanco.[4] It changed hands a number of times. John Joseph Sullivan owned the paper early in its history, while it was later acquired by Rupert Henderson, who was first general manager ofJohn Fairfax & Sons and later managing director.[5]
In November 2001, it was renamedThe Irrigator[1] and remains in publication under this name.[6] In February 2025,Australian Community Media reduced the printed edition to weekly.[7]
The paper has been digitised as part of theAustralian Newspapers Digitisation Program of theNational Library of Australia.[8][9]
