The Good Luck[1] (Spanish:La buena suerte) is a 2025 Spanish drama film directed byGracia Querejeta from a screenplay by Querejeta andMaría Ruiz based on the novel byRosa Montero. It starsHugo Silva andMegan Montaner.

Plot

Fleeing from something, architect Pablo gets off the train on the village (and formerbituminous coal mining site) of Pozonegro, coming across colourful characters such as Raluca, who also keeps a secret.[2][3]

Based on the novelLa buena suerte byRosa Montero, the screenplay was written byGracia Querejeta in tandem withMaría Ruiz.[2][5] The film is a Tornasol Media, Arlas PC AIE and Trianera PC AIE production, with the participation ofRTVE andMovistar Plus+, subsidised by theGovernment of Navarre and with backing fromICAA andICO.[6]

Filming locations inNavarre includedAbárzuza,Oteiza,Muruzábal,Obanos,Pamplona.[3] Additional footage was shot inLa Rioja andMadrid.[3]

Release

The film was presented at the28th Málaga Film Festival on 16 March 2025, vying for theGolden Biznaga.[3] Distributed by Karma Films,[5][7] it is scheduled to be released theatrically in Spain on 6 June 2025.[2] Latido Films acquired international sales rights.[5]

Reception

Javier Ocaña ofEl País considered that, while not being a perfect film by any means,The Good Luck triumphs in "the depth of the characters, their carnality and warmth".[8]
