The Battle of Jena is an 1836history painting by the FrenchartistHorace Vernet.[1] It depicts theBattle of Jena fought on 14 October 1806. It portrays theFrench EmperorNapoleon on the field at Jena, one of his greatest victories during theNapoleonic Wars where he routed aPrussian force.[2]
The painting was commissioned byLouis Philippe I, who reigned during theJuly Monarchy. It was exhibited at theSalon of 1836 at theLouvre inParis. It is today in theGalerie des Batailles at thePalace of Versailles along with other battle scenes by Vernet.[3]
