TheAnderson Independent-Mail, marketed asIndependent Mail and sometimes referred to asAnderson Independent Mail,[2] is a newspaper forAnderson County in the state ofSouth Carolina. It is owned by Gannett Satellite Information Network, LLC. It is the closest daily newspaper toClemson University, the newspaper's sports department heavily covers the sports of theClemson Tigers.

History

George Pierce Browne founded the precursor afternoon newspaper theAnderson Daily Mail in 1899.Wilton E. Hall, publisher of theMorning Anderson Independent, bought theAnderson Daily Mail and published both newspapers for more than four decades. The two papers were purchased byHarte-Hanks Communications in 1972 and combined as theAnderson Independent-Mail. In 1997, TheE. W. Scripps Company bought the newspaper.[2]

Scripps spun out its newspaper assets intoJournal Media Group in April 2015.[3] In 2016,Gannett acquired all 15 daily JMG newspapers, including theIndependent Mail.[2]
