TheThaynes Group,Thaynes Formation in older literature, is ageologic group in easternIdaho, westernWyoming,Utah and easternNevada. It includes theSinbad Formation,Virgin Formation andShnabkaib Formation.[1] The Thaynes Group is of marine origin. Its formations are interbedded with layers of the non-marineMoenkopi Group.[1]
It preservesfossils dating back to theEarly Triassicepoch (Olenekian stage). The Lower Limestone Member contains theParis biotalagerstätte, one of the firstdiverse assemblages of theMesozoicera.[2]
