Tephrite is anigneous,volcanic (extrusive)rock, withaphanitic toporphyritictexture.Mineral content is usually abundantfeldspathoids (leucite ornepheline),plagioclase, and lesser alkalifeldspar.Pyroxenes (clinopyroxenes) are common accessory minerals.Quartz andolivine are absent. The absence of olivine distinguishes them from the otherwise similarbasanite. It's parameters are defined in theQAPF diagram. Occurrences include leucite nepheline tephrite from Hamberg bei Neckarelz nearHeidelberg,Germany,[1] phonolite-tephrite atMonte Vulture,Basilicata, Italy andbasanite–tephriteintrusions inNamibia.
