Teofil Codreanu (1 February 1941 – 10 January 2016) was a Romanian professionalfootballer who played as anattacking midfielder.
Codreanu, nicknamedParpală, was born on 1 February 1941 inBucharest, Romania and began playing junior-level football in 1956 atCCA București.[1][2][3] In 1959, he went to play forRapid București where on 18 March 1962 he made hisDivizia A debut under coachIon Mihăilescu in a 1–1 draw againstMinerul Lupeni.[1][2][3][4] Codreanu spent all 12 seasons of his career at Rapid, helping the club win the1966–67 Divizia A, which was the first title in its history, being used by coachValentin Stănescu in 23 matches in which he scored two goals.[1][2][3][5] He also won the1971–72 Cupa României, playing four games in the campaign, including being used by coachBazil Marian as a starter in the 2–0 win overJiul Petroșani in thefinal.[1][2][3][6]

Codreanu played 14 games and scored three goals in European competitions.[1][2] He took part in the1967–68 European Cup campaign in which he helpedThe Railwaymen get pastTrakia Plovdiv in the first round by scoring a double in the second leg, being eliminated byJuventus in the following round.[1][2][7] He played five games in the1971–72 UEFA Cup as the club reached the third round, eliminatingNapoli andLegia Warsaw, being eliminated by the team who eventually won the competition,Tottenham.[2][3][8] Subsequently, he took part in the1972–73 European Cup Winners' Cup campaign, playing two games, helping the team reach the quarter-finals, eliminatingLandskrona BoIS andRapid Wien, being knocked out byLeeds United who reached the final.[2][3][9] Codreanu made his last Divizia A appearance on 20 June 1973 in a 2–1 away loss toSC Bacău, having a total of 258 appearances with 39 goals scored in the competition, also totaling 33 matches with seven goals inCupa României.[1][2][3]
From 1962 until 1971, Codreanu made several appearances for Romania's under-23, B andOlympic teams.[10]
Codreanu made one appearance forRomania, playing on 23 October 1965 under coachIlie Oană in a 2–1 away loss toTurkey in the1966 World Cup qualifiers.[11]
Codreanu was also amanager who coached mostly in the Romanian lower leagues at Mecanică Fină București, Unirea Răcari,CSM Borzești andMetalul Rădăuți.[3] He had only a singleDivizia A experience which consisted of seven games atRapid București, and also coached for many years at the team's youth academy.[3]
He died on 10 January 2016, at the age of 74 in his nativeBucharest.[1][2][3][12]
