Update and Format Suggestions

[edit]

I've updated the template to reflect the Giants squad as of 27 Dec 2023 JST. The only thing I'm concerned with these types of roster boxes, and the Hawks are the same, is that a roster box for the entire organisation is getting a bit unwieldly. I feel as though the first-team players and coaches are visually drowned out a bit by the way the box is formatted. I usually curate theTemplate: Chunichi Dragons roster navbox and visually it's not the same issue as development players are just listed in the same box. Furthermore, there's just not as many levels to the Chunichi organisation. Open to suggestions on to how we could improve this.Cynikles (talk)22:12, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cynikles. The one thing that I would suggest is that we restructure the box to remove the distinction between first squad and second squad, like the way the navbox does. In my view, the difference is ephemeral, because NPB teams have basically no limits in who they move up/down from their first team - in fact, the makeup of the first team changes after almost every game. It's often the case that first squad regulars who are struggling or injured are removed from the first squad and play a little while in the second squad (for example, in 2024 both Ohyama and Satoteru (Hanshin) did some time in the minors even though they'd usually be in the first squad all season, because they were both struggling). It's also the case that starting pitchers are sometimes sent down when they need a longer rest period.
To my mind, if there is any purpose to showing a difference between first and second squad players, it would be to tell readers who would be likely to appear in a first squad game - but that changes every day!Kitanotatsu (talk)03:15, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
