Search box

[edit]

I don't see the need for the search box in the template. I've never seen it in any other template, and I don't think it adds any needed capability. The resulting search results page just has the list of articles that are already linked in the template itself.Indyguy (talk)17:03, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The advantage is that you can get the names of the writers by typing in the hymn...Searching for "Awake" will get you "Philipp Nicolai". Nearly all readers will have limited name recognition, but a decent number of them will know some first lines. Another use of the search bar is to find hymns by location...searching "Berlin" gives 25 possibilities, although the first two are not helpful. I will move the search box lower down and see if you still object.--Epiphyllumlover (talk)18:28, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Norwegian hymnal template

*Svein Ellingsen

[edit]

See the Finnish article, also[1]--Epiphyllumlover (talk)06:52, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Besides Ellingsen, the other ones that need to be re-added areHolger Lissner,Anders Frostenson,Egil Hovland. The other ones I concede for one reason or another can be omitted.--Epiphyllumlover (talk)17:32, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of far-fetched topics

[edit]

@Epiphyllumlover: please stop adding links to biographies that explain little about and/or have no references confirming the hymnodist/hymnologist characterisation of the person. The navbox is for linking to articles where one can learn more about the topic indicated by the navbox: if that basis is not in the Wikipedia article, it should not be linked from the navbox. --Francis Schonken (talk)06:56, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A few of these articles are stubs, but most have more to them. In some cases you can use the bar at left to find out more info about the hymnwriters from the Finnish/etc. language article.--Epiphyllumlover (talk)06:57, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Irrelevant: either the content relating to the topic is explained & well-sourced in the English Wikipedia article... or it isn't, in which case slapping on a navbox should not be done. --Francis Schonken (talk)07:00, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Epiphyllumlover andFrancis Schonken: I can help with Finnish sources. Is it enough for inclusion that there is a sourced statement in the article that the person wrote hymns, or are you looking for some other inclusion criteria? I was notified about this discussionhere.– Finnusertop (talkcontribs)16:51, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for offering. I have different standards than Francis Schonken. He would like to only have hymnodists in the template whose articles discuss their hymn-authorship; I think more than a brief mention is needed. I would like anyone who is described as a hymnodist on the Finnish wikipedia included. If you look at the edit history, you will see that I added a number of people, which Francis removed. Some of them were mostly secular or contemporary Christian musicians which happened to have a hymn included in the new hymn section at the end of the Finnish hymnal. In retrospect I can see that maybe my standards were too loose--as I have personal experience with relatively few Finnish hymns, my judgement was based on the hymnal on the Finnish Wikipedia rather than a well informed background. Above you'll see a list of names that I picked out of the initial group removed by Francis. These are the ones I thought worth arguing over. I am looking for your opinion especially about these names. Yet I understand that Francis may not be satisfied with including them unless their articles are improved with more discussion of their hymn-writing. If you would like to do any of that, you are welcome as well, but I understand if you have other things to do.--Epiphyllumlover (talk)18:01, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
